Multi-lane freeflow electronic tolling

Multi-lane freeflow electronic tolling
CityLink is a 22 kilometre motorway in Melbourne, Australia, connecting three major urban freeways, and linking Melbourne’s manufacturing hubs with the city centre, port and airport.

Collects tolls across multiple lanes with vehicles travelling at freeway speed. Uses microwave Dedicated Short-Range Communications to identify vehicle transponders, stereoscopic imaging for vehicle detection and classification, and cameras to capture images of vehicle licence plates for tolling/ enforcement.

CityLink was one of the first roads in the world to adopt multi-lane freeflow electronic tolling. Initially processing more than 600,000 transactions per day, the CityLink tolling system had to operate on a massive scale. Today it still remains one of the largest electronic tolling systems.
